Records of trespass on state land, 1878-1922.

Volumes 30-32 of record group 57-31 consist of records of trespassing on state lands, as documented by the Michigan State Land Office (1878-1922). State Land Office agents were authorized to examine and report incidents of trespassing on state lands (see Public Act 95 of 1875). These records document the legal description of the property, the kind and extent of trespass, name and address of trespasser, disposition of case, and a physical description of the kind and amount of timber removed and sale price. Post 1910 records are a bit more descriptive than those dating 1878 to 1910.
